Underwater robots in particular are a most promising educational tool rich with learning experiences that students can gain while constructing them. The present paper offers a simple "recipe" for building a reliable underwater robot demonstrated through a case study.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The advantage of the described recipe over existing educational robotics kits is that it combines being low-cost and reliable at the same time. We illustrate how adopting the proposed recipe can teach students that it is possible to develop successful sophisticated engineering projects from simple, cheap off-the-shelf components and using only low-resources technological tools if they carefully employ the different engineering concepts that they learnt through their different studies. Modern computer numerical controlled (CNC) machine tools have revolutionized the manufacturing process. In modern CNC systems, end-to-end component design is highly automated using </span><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer-aided_design" title="Computer-aided design"><span style="color: white; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;">computer-aided design</span></a><span style="color: white;"> (CAD) and </span><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer-aided_manufacturing" title="Computer-aided manufacturing"><span style="color: white; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;">computer-aided manufacturing</span></a><span style="color: white;"> (<place w:st="on">CAM</place>) programs. The programs produce a computer file that is interpreted to extract the commands needed to operate a particular machine via a postprocessor, and then loaded into the CNC machines for production. Despite their wide-spread in many manufacturing fields, they are still unutilized by the ship industry. With ship hulls, the sizes of the plates that are required to be shaped as well as their desired forming shapes are quite challenging to CNC machines. The aim of our presentation is to review the principles of CNC machines, the associated challenges that hinder using them in the ship industry as well as propose a new CNC machine design concept that can overcome these challenges. The proposed modified CNC machine makes use of several hydraulic actuators within a reconfigurable system framework to overcome the drawbacks of conventional machines from the point of view of ship hull forming. A simple control strategy is proposed to assure that the plates are shaped as required with high accuracy. The unit harvests solar/wind energy using a smart new scheme. The contributions of the new design that we propose may be summarized as follows. The first contribution is the special arrangement and positioning of the solar/wind harvesting systems. The second contribution is an adaptive anticipatory fuzzy logic controller which is responsible for optimal power unit parameters adjustment and power budget management. The merits of the proposed power demonstrated through a case study. We present the full details of applying the proposed power unit design principles to design the power plant for a "quadramaran" superyacht that we call Ganaremos. Parametric studies carried out using these simulators can help them understand basic engineering laws and physics phenomena. In design, multiphysics simulators are invaluable for a designer. It allows designers to verify their preliminary designs and modify them until satisfactory performance is achieved without resorting to expensive prototype construction and reconstruction. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The goal of our presentation is to introduce to the audience the motivation for using multiphysics simulators, the basic steps of constructing a multiphysics simulation (geometry definition, boundary conditions definition, meshing, solver configuration and postprocessing) as well as a summary of important concepts that must be clear in the mind of a multiphysics simulator user to avoid obtaining inaccurate results. The philosophy relies on combining hybrid energy harvesting with computational fluid dynamics (CFD)-based optimization in order to produce a power plant that achieves the desired high power density harvesting at a low cost and with out resorting to complex construction technologies. The effectiveness of the proposed philosophy is demonstrated through preliminary planning calculations for a hybrid energy farm called WI-TI which we believe to be a step forward towards solving the Egyptian energy crisis.</span></span></div><br />
